Welcome To Sutton Midweek Church

Below are listed a number of our core beliefs that identify us as part of the world-wide Christian church.                                              (Cheam Hall 1900-2007)

We believe in the one God, creator of the heavens and the earth, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as attested in the Apostle’s and Nicene Creeds

We acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord of all, the sacrificial Lamb of God and Saviour of the world

We believe that Jesus died and rose again on the third day, defeating death in the process, and shortly afterwards ascending into heaven to sit at His Father’s side

We believe in the universal sinful nature of man

We also believe that man can be redeemed through faith in Jesus Christ, whose atoning sacrifice became a propitiation for our sins, thereby diverting God’s wrath away from us.

We believe that salvation is through faith alone by God’s sovereign grace, and not by anything we can do.

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, built on the foundations of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone

We believe that true believers are born again children of God, in-dwelt with the Holy Spirit

We believe in the active work of the Holy Spirit who inspired men to write the scriptures. He illuminates, regenerates, sanctifies and bestows the spiritual gifts by which men serve God through His church

We believe that the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit continue to the present day. We want to encourage those gifts, in particular, those which build up the church.

We believe the Bible to be God’s word divinely inspired and trustworthy for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness (i)

Local Responsibilities

We believe that God’s word (the Bible) can speak for itself through expository preaching and teaching. We also believe that the message must not be softened or watered down in any way, merely to suit the prevailing culture in which we live. God’s truth transcends all cultures and social trends.

We believe that discipleship is key to growing effective Christians, and the effectiveness of that growth is seen as individuals progress from spiritual milk to solid food (ii).

We believe that the responsibility to spread the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ lies with all believers. And by developing individuals through the discipling process, we hope to see everyone confidently reaching out to others.

We believe that developing an attitude of prayer is fundamental to the life of a Christian. Prayer should become second nature to both the gathered church body as well as to the individual
